The New Jersey Veterinary Technicians and Assistants (NJVTA) wants to thank the NJVMA for the opportunity to provide a regular update to the E- Newsletter and report on our current events.  With 375 members to date, we are very active with many projects and are thrilled to have your interest and support!

Our 20th Annual NJVTA Conference was held on Sunday, April 17th, at the Sheraton in Eatontown.  We enjoyed our strongest registration to date, with 125 veterinary technicians and assistants attending the day long event, which offered three seminar tracks and afternoon wet labs.  CE covered a wide variety of topics requested by our membership including exotics, tube management (nasal, urinary, chest), stem cell/cyber knife therapy, behavior, hospice care, pain management, bereavement, nutrition, and surgical instrumentation. We were honored to have Dr. DeCarlo attend the luncheon and inform us about all the current activities with the NJVMA.  Our post conference surveys were very positive and we invite you to mark your calendars to join us next April for our 21st Annual Spring Conference!  Date TBA.

The students of the first NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant Program are doing well and will complete the didactic portion of their training at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft at the end of April.  The clinical training at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital begins in May for 3 weeks. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the just released NAVTA Veterinary Assistant Exam, given on line by Vet Med Team.  A passing grade will earn the title of the Approved Veterinary Assistant.  New Jersey is one of the first states to have a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant Program, which puts NJ out in front for elevating the care of our patients by educating the entry level position of the healthcare team!  More information regarding the program can be found at www.navta.net , www.brookdalecc.edu, or specific questions can be sent to info@njvta.com.  We thank you for your support of the program!
