New Jersey Veterinary Technicians Assistants Technicians from across the state volunteered their time and
skills on Friday, May 6th, 2011 at a Free Veterinary Clinic for Dogs and Cats in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The event, sponsored by the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Pets of the Homeless, and the veterinarians of the Southeastern New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association provided heartworm tests, vaccines, treatment of minor medical problems, pet food, supplies and information on low-cost spay neuters for those pet owners living at the poverty level or have lost their jobs in the recession.
The New Jersey Veterinary Technicians and Assistants attended the annual TriBranch AALAS conference June 13-15, 2011 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The goal is to bridge the gap between veterinary technicians and assistants in private practice and research. NJVTA members, Leslie Sheppard Bird, AAS, CVT, RLATg from Rutgers University and Kathryn Galvin, BS, CVT, RLATg from Merck Research Labs presented posters. Kathryn took third place in the Research Facility Category, while Leslie placed first in the Institutional category and earned an all-expense paid trip to the National AALAS Convention.
Update on the NAVTA Approved Veterinary Assistant Program at Brookdale:
11 students successfully completed the program and have earned their certificate. They will be

NJ Technicians are participating in a national effort to help animals in Joplin, MO!
NAVTA has teamed up with the ASPCA in the recruitment effort of volunteer technicians across the country to assist in disaster response for the animals in Joplin, MO. Several NJ technicians have volunteered their time to assist with daily care, intake, and treatment of these animals. All members of the veterinary healthcare team are welcome and needed!
