NJVMA Board Apprentice Program

Every year the NJVMA selects a Board Apprentice from the New Jersey veterinarian community. Our Board Apprentice receives a scholarship to join New Jersey’s delegation at the AVMA Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) as our NJ Representative Rising Leader (currently scheduled for January 7-10, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois). The scholarship covers the cost of registration, travel, hotel and meals while attending the conference. The NJVMA Board Apprentice is then able to serve on the Board of Directors as a non-voting member the year following the conference. NJVMA Veterinarian members who graduated in the last 15 years are eligible to apply. Click here for more information and to apply!

Mentorship Program

The NJVMA Mentorship Program is designed to give support and encouragement to New Jersey veterinary students while they are completing their studies. It also helps serve as a link to the students’ home state, thereby encouraging them to return to New Jersey upon graduation. Click here for more information. {member sign-in required}

We hope you will consider becoming a mentor and helping to foster future veterinarians! To sign up please send an email to with MENTOR in the subject line.

Volunteer openings along with opportunities to participate in association activities and events are promoted through e-mail and through our monthly E-newsletter. We also maintain a list of interested volunteers that we can reach out to for specific tasks, or special opportunities that arise on occasion. Click here to complete a Volunteer Interest Form.

The NJVMA is committed to actively promoting the value of the veterinary profession to the public, association members, government entities and other stakeholders. We employee one of the top lobbyists in the state and meet with government officials to discuss issues that affect our members. Our staff and volunteers attend events across the state that provide opportunities to interact with legislators and promote the veterinary profession. To learn more, please click here.

If you would like to work directly with the NJVMA on our advocacy efforts, please email us at for more information on how you can help.
