Advocacy Interest Survey
The AVMA is conducting a survey to better understand veterinarians’ network of relationships with elected officials at both the federal and state level, how interested you are in public policy issues impacting veterinary medicine, and whether you want to take a more active role in advocating for our profession. Participating in this survey will help the NJVMA assess member interest in becoming more involved in the association’s legislative efforts. Click here to access the survey. It should only takes a few minutes.
Oppose Mandatory Prescription Writing for Veterinarians
Some members of Congress want to require veterinarians to provide clients with written prescriptions for their pets, regardless of the clients’ wishes. There is no need for a sweeping federal mandate on this issue. The vast majority of states, including New Jersey, already have a requirement for a veterinarian to provide a prescription when a client requests one, and the AVMA's Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics state that veterinarians shall provide written or electronic prescriptions when asked.
