Omur Silit Appointed NJVMA Board Apprentice

Dr. Omur Silit, DVM, a highly dedicated veterinarian with six years of experience in emergency medicine, shelter care, and general veterinary practice, was appointed to the NJVMA Executive Board as Board Apprentice during the December Executive Board Meeting.

A Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine graduate with clinical training at Cornell University, Dr. Silit is passionate about advancing veterinary care and advocating for animals. Inspired by a childhood bond with a stray cat, Dr. Silit has committed his career to improving animal health and welfare.

Dr. Silit brings a wealth of leadership experience, including roles in student government, city health boards, and as a wrestling coach emeritus, where he honed his skills in team management, policy development, and mentorship. His vision for the profession focuses on fostering innovation, mentoring new veterinarians, and advocating for improved practices in veterinary medicine.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Silit enjoys gardening, yoga, running, and caring for his two cats and 18 chickens. His compassionate approach and strategic mindset make him a valuable asset to the veterinary community.

Every year, the NJVMA selects a Board Apprentice from the New Jersey veterinarian community. The Board Apprentice participates in all Executive Board meetings in a non-voting capacity for the entire fiscal year.
