About the Event

This session will focus on veterinary industry guidelines regarding the highest, wisest, and safest use of opioids in dogs and cats.  A focus will be on clinical utility of longer-acting commercial products in dogs and cats.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the changing role of opioids in veterinary medicine.
  • Review opioid mode of action and comparison/contrast of different types of opioid molecules.
  • Gain insight into the indications and on- and extra-label use of longer-acting commercial opioid products in dogs and cats.

CE Credit: This webinar fulfills the New Jersey State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners Continuing Education requirement for 1 (one) credit concerning “prescription opioid drugs, including the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion” (45:16-9.4c)

About the Speaker

Dr. Epstein is the Senior Partner and Medical Director of TotalBond Veterinary Hospitals, a small group of AAHA-accredited practices in the Charlotte & Gastonia NC.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine/Feline) and is a past-president of ABVP.  He recognized as a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP) by the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, and is a past-president of IVAPM; he is currently President of the IVAPM Research & Scholarship Foundation.    Dr. Epstein chaired the AAHA Senior Care Guidelines Task Force and co-Chaired the 2015 AAHA/AAFP Pain Management Guidelines Task Force.  He is a recipient of the 2022 Viticus Small Animal Educator of the Year Award.
