The NJ Dept of Health is reactivating the Domestic Companion Animal Council after many years of dormancy. As part of the Council’s structure, NJVMA is able to name two representatives to the Council. The DCAC is responsible for consulting with and advising the Commissioner of Health on the State’s efforts to monitor, study, and review the activities of the Animal Population Control Program, pilot clinics, and other programs to control rabies, overpopulation, as well as other projects to address animal welfare. The DCAC consists of 12 members – appointed by the Governor, with advice and consent of the senate – with demonstrated knowledge of and interest in animal welfare, animal population control and the public health and well-being as they relate to the breeding, raising and nurturing of animals as domestic companion animals.
